EAST PRAIRIE - Alta S. Ward, 93, died at 2:25 a.m. Sept. 21, 2003, at the Charleston Manor.
Born Jan. 1, 1910, in Winchester, Tenn., daughter of the late Jake and Ruthie Travis Smith, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in East Prairie. She moved to Missouri in 1913 and lived in East Prairie most of her life.
On Sept. 28, 1935, in New Madrid, she married Herman Ward who preceded her in death on March 8, 1978.
Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Drucella Ann and Jerry Neal Burton of East Prairie; one grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jerry Neal and Chelly Burton II of Chesapeake, Va.; and four great-grandchildren, Bethany Michelle Burton, Jerry Neal Burton III, Logan Alexander Burton and Nicholas Adam Burton of Chesapeake.
Also preceding her in death were four sisters, Florence Cowser Buttery, Bessie Coffer, Bula Coffer Dodge and Elton Williams.
Visitation begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Shelby Funeral Home where services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Buddy Hannah officiating.
Burial will follow in the Anniston Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Larry Gene Dodge, Hubert Woods Jr., Travis Parker, Donnie Coffer, Bobby Williams and Richard McClain.
