MANY ATTEND FENTERS RITES AT HEMINGWAY

Hemingway, March 12---A large number of friends and relatives attended the funeral services for John Thomaas Fenters which were held Saturday morning at the Rose Hill Baptist church. The Rev. B. D. Timmes assisted by the Rev. Bright Powers and the Rev. J. Belton Baker were in charge of the services. The eight grandsons serving as pallbearers were Freeland Fenters, D. T. Fenters, Jr., Loyal Fenters, Laverne Fenters, Reynolds Fenters, W. A. Owens, Jr., D. L. Tanner and Liston Baxley.

The honorary escort included Harry Munnerlyn, James Munnerlyn, J, W, McElveen, L. W. Avant, Dr. H. L. Baker, D. A. Inginham, D. D. Rehm, L. L. Lambert, Hennie Fraser, W. A. Ivey, T. P. Pwell, A. C. Hutchen, W. S. Cox and W. E. Cox. The eight grand daughters who lovingly arranged the many flowers at his last resting place were Miss Dorothy Fenters, Miss Maxine Fenters, Miss Margie Fenters, Miss Jessie Mae Fenters, Miss Mary Ellen Fenters, Mrs. Golden Edgeworth, Mrs. David McKenzie and Miss Dale Owens. The Hemingway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements,

Mr. Fenters, a retired planter and one of Hemingway's oldest citizens, died at the Johnson memorial hospital Thursday night after an illness of two days. He was a son of the late Tom Fenters and Elizabeth Bates Fenters. He was born in Georgetown county and spent an active and useful life on his plantation near Rose Hill until his retirement a few years ago when he and Mrs. Fenters came to make their home here to be near their six sons, all of whom made their homed here at that time. He was a faithful and concerned member of the Baptist church and will be remembered by the great interest and love he had for all with whom he came in contact.

More than fifty years ago he was married to Miss Mary Ellen Williams and to this union were born six sons and six daughters all of whom have grown to manhood and womanhood. His passing marks the first break in this most remarkable family circle.

In addition to his widow Mr. Fenters is survived by the following children, Mrs. A. B. Tanner, Mrs. D. V. Martin, Mrs. W. A. Owens, Mrs. J. W. Barringer, Columbis, Mrs. R. P. Harris, Richfield, N. C., G. T. Fenters, Pamplico, D. L. Fenters, B. G. Fenters, O. H. Fenters, D. M. Fenters, J. M. Fenters, Hemingway; fifty-seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; six sons-in-law and six daughters-in-law.
