: Durst, Jacob (Feb. 5, 1824-June 19, 1908 –husband of Mathilda Schweitzer [married Feb. 13, 1866 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton] –son of Joseph Durst and Katharine Binkert [Joseph was born Dec. 12, 1782 of Johannes Durst (1746-1789) and Maria Anna Sibler –Joseph died Feb. 10, 1841 at Geisslingen, Waldshut, Baden –he was a blacksmith at Munchingen, Baden –married the widow Katharina nee Binkert Semler on April 29, 1818 at Geisslingen, Baden –Katharina was born June 24, 1786 at Noggenschweil, Waldshut, Baden of Joannes Binkert and Katharina Hupfer –died in 1841] –born Geisslingen, Waldshut, Baden –carpenter and farmer –“Jacob Durst of Geisslinger entered his apprenticeship in the carpentry trade in January 1849. He graduated and got his diploma on March 12, 1854 from the Master cabinet maker Martin Spitznagel.” –from the diploma of certificate –immigrated to the US on the boat Regular departing from the Port of Havre, France, arriving in the Port of New York on Aug. 4, 1854 as part of the Fr. Oschwald group immigrating to America –applied for naturalization on Nov. 19, 1855 –in the 1860 census for the Town of Eaton, Jacob is shown living in a house with his brothers Martin and Xavier Durst –from Jan. 22, 1856 to June 17, 1861, in partnership with his younger brother Xavier Durst, owned the 40 acres of the NE1/4 of the SW1/4 of Section 7, Town of Liberty –from Oct. 15, 1858 to June 2, 1862 owned the 40 acres of the SW1/4 of the SW1/4 of Section 24, Town of Eaton –from Jan. 3, 1868 to Jan. 3, 1887 owned the 20 acres of the W1/2 of the SW1/4 of the NW1/4 of Section 25, Town of Eaton –on Jan. 19, 1875 purchased 1.88 acres of vacant land from the Roman Catholic Religious Association and had a house built at 105 West Court in St. Nazianz –on June 25, 1897 sold this house to his son-in-law Henry Diem and his wife Mary Anna Durst –by 1905 Henry and Mary Diem had built a new house on this property –the original house continued to stand until it was razed after Jacob’s death in 1908 –died from “apoplexy” –“Jacob Durst, a member of the original colony settling St. Nazianz, is dead at an advanced age, death resulting from a stroke of paralysis which he sustained while attending church service at the church in which he had been a member for more than sixty years. Mr. Durst suffered the stroke during the evening services and was taken to the home of his daughter where he lingered for forty-eight hours before death relieved him. Mr. Durst came to St. Nazianz with Rev.
