She was born on August 20, 1922 in Sumatra, Montana, daughter of the late Frank and Olivia (Hecker) Burkart.
She attended grade school while living with her parents on the family farm in Sumatra.
Catherine moved to Wisconsin in 1936 and married Gilbert Gosse on November 23, 1944. He preceded her in death on January 8, 1969. She later married Elmer Schaefer on November 19, 1971. The couple made there home in the Town of Rhine all of their married life. Elmer preceded her in death on March 21, 1990.
She was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church in Plymouth.
She is survived by a nephew; Russell (Sharon) Dirks of the Town of Rhine, a brother; Leo Burkart of Manitowoc, two sisters; Mary Gerber of Sheboygan and Anna Kohlmann of Glenbeulah, special friends Dennis (Nancy) Raeder of Elkhart Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, a sister; Rose, and two brothers; Art, and Joe Burkart.
A Funeral Requiem will be held at 12 NOON on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Plymouth with Father Daniel Repp officiating. Entombment will follow in the Garden Peace Mausoleum in the Town of Sheboygan Falls. The Sheboygan Press
