ORLANDO, Fla. - Betty Jean Forgas, 74, of Orlando, formerly of Springfield, died at 3:36 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 20, 1934, in Springfield, the daughter of Norbert and Phrona De Arrow Henson. She married Lt. Col. James Andrew Forgas in 1955; he preceded her in death on April 10, 1983.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Jenkins; and a brother-in-law, Hal Jenkins.

She is survived by three daughters, Karen (husband, Robert "Buzz") Woeckener of Columbus, Ohio, Andrea (husband, Col. William "Bill") Schaal of Woodbridge, Va., and Kathy (husband, Paul) Elderhorst of Fair Haven, N.J.; two sons, Gary Forgas of Orlando and Brian (wife, Lauren) Forgas of Evanston; and 10 grandchildren.

Betty lived in Orlando since 1989. She was a homemaker and an Air Force spouse.

She attended Queen Mary of the Universe Shrine in Orlando. She was a former member of Christ the King Parish. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing Scrabble, gardening and community involvement.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with

Msgr. John Ossola officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Air Force Aid Society or Fisher House Military Foundation.
