Paso Robles, Calif. --- Services for former Lemmon and White Butte, S.D., resident Woodrow Theodore Portney, 72, were recently held in California.

Inurnment was to be in Black Hills National Cemtery near Sturgis, S.D.

Portney died March 3 in California.

He was born on March 1, 1919. He grew up in the Lemmon and White Butte areas. He farmed there and also was a trucker.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Ruth Portney; nine children; 14 grandchildren; two brothers, John Portney of DeReyter, N.Y., and Roger Portney of Richmond, Calif.; and two sisters, Inez Burdick of Meridian, Idaho, and Margaret Hoffman of Custer, S.D.
