Miss Beatrice Baker Dies in Sanford Today, Commercial Teacher Was Kin of Local Man
Miss Beatrice Baker, 52, a commercial teacher and daughter, of the Rev. George E. Baker, blind and retired Baptist minister of Stanford, died there at 6:30 o'clock this morning at her home on (Main) Stream Street, of a heart ailment.
Although she had been slightly ill for several years, her condition became worse only several days ago.
She was born Jan. 13, 1895, a devout Baptist and member of Stanford Baptist Church. Miss Baker was her father's companion and housekeeper, despite an affliction caused from infantile paralysis suffered at the age of six. Miss Baker was an Honors graduate of Cumberland College Williamsburg, and had attended the University of Kentucky Lexington, Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College Richmond, and Bowling Green College.
She lacked little of attaining her Masters Degree, a former teacher for several years of a private commercial class, Miss Baker is said probably to have launched more young persons into business and commercial work in Stanford than anyone else.
Other survivors in addition to her father include a brother, George E. Baker, Jr., and a half-brother, Carey Baker, of Danville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday, afternoon at the residence with the Rev. Adrian Lamkin, pastor of Stanford Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Buffalo Springs cemetery near Stanford
