Obituary;
MRS. THEODORE ABEL, (Mary Maria Honadel) daughter of Jacob and Caroline Honadel, was born near Donnellson, Iowa on September 24, 1860, and departed this life on October 22, 1942, at 3;15 P.M. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.E. (Clara D.) Best. She attained the age of 82 years and 28 days.
Baptized in infancy and confirmed according to the rite of the Evangelical and Reformed church, she was received into full membership with the church where she maintained her membership in good standing at the time of her death. As long as her health permitted, she was a regular attender at the morning service of worship. After she no longer could attend, she many times expressed desire to go to the church and regretted that her health would no linger permit her attendance.
On November 6, 1884, she was married in the home of her parents in West Point township to Mr. Theodore Abel and became to him a faithful and diligent help-mate during their married life. They established their home in this community and found employment in farming. To this union were born three children, one son, Henry, and two daughters, Mrs. H.B. (Clara D.) Best and Mrs. John (Amanda Caroline) Fett, all of Donnellson.
In a fall, in June, she sustained a broken leg and fractured hip. She was moved to the hospital in Fort Madison, Lee Co., Iowa where she remained until July 6, when she was taken to the home of Mrs. John (Amanda Caroline) Fett. Here she remained until she was brought to the home she spent the last days of her life and answered the great call. The injury she sustained proved too much of a shock to her, being in a weakened condition, while just before the fall she had been in better health then for sometime. She suffered the consequences of this shock. Soon after being taken to the hospital, a nurse was employed.
She had many times expressed the desire to go, since the death of her husband, who passed away on August 5, 1939.
There remain to mourn her going, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Abel, Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Best and Mr. and Mrs. John Fett; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held in the St,. Paul Evangelical and Reformed church, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. E. K. Schneider. The body was laid to rest in the family lot in the Evangelical cemetery, Donnellson, Lee Co., Iowa. The following nephews of the deceased being pall bearers: Robert Haeffner, Alvin Honadel, Oscar D. Seyb, John Ott, Orville Haeffner and Fred Roth. Information from FAG contributor kir99.
