Fisher - Joseph Bernat, 84, died Friday, September 8, 2000 at Riverview Nursing Home in Crookston.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 11, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Warren with Rev. Larry Weiseler officiating. Darlyn Votava was the organist, and Mary Jadeke was the song leader. Casketbearers were JoMar Bernat, Val Bernat Jr., Robert Stolp, Paul Anderson, Dwight Anderson and Elmer Sabol. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Warren with Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Joseph Paul Bernat was born on May 12, 1916 in Turtle Creek, Pa., the son of John and Annie (Povlinko) Bernat. Joseph came to Minnesota at the age of two and spent his childhood in Benwood where he attended Benwood Country School.

On June 25, 1952, he was united in marriage to Margaret Sabol. They farmed in the Warren area. Joseph also worked at an East Grand Forks lumber yard and on the railroad during the early years. During the 1970s, he worked at Arctic Cat. Margaret died on January 14, 1995, and Joseph moved to Fisher in 1995.

He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, hunting and doing carpentry work.

Joseph is survived by two sons, Rodney (Judy) Bernat of Fisher and Rodger Bernat of Salol; five grandchildren; one sister, Ann Stolp of Greenbush; one brother, Valent Bernat of Roseau; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter-in-law, Debbie Bernat; and brother, John.
