Funeral services for James A. Marre, 87, of 2231 25th St., Rock Island, who died at his home yesterday, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island.

George W. Van Zandbergen of the East Rock Island Congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses Kingdom Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be after noon tomorrow at the funeral home.

Mr. Marre was born Feb. 26, 1890, in St. Louis, Mo., a son of James and Laura Freund Marre.

He moved to Rock Island in 1917.

On Sept. 25, 1909, he married Mamie Vogelsang in St. Louis.

Member of the Rock Island Fire Department from 19 Oct 1920 - 1 Dec 1940. He was a fire captain at Rock Island Fire Station No.4 until his retirement in 1940 after 20 years of service.

Surviving with the widow are six daughters, Miss Marguerite M., at home, Mrs Raymond W. Rosene of Neptune Beach, Fla., Mrs Ralph W. Scott of Milan, Mrs. Sherman A. Martin of San Antonio, Tex., Mrs. Alberta M. Mohr of Barrington and Mrs. William T. "Ted" Averill of Rock Island; a son, James Jr. of Ormand Park, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ed Marre of New Jersey, and four sisters.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers and three sisters.
