Genetically proven to descend from Matthew Rogers of Jackson County Tennesee. James Rufus Rogers was born in Tennessee, likely Jackson County. There is a high probability he is the son of John Rogers, son of Matthew Rogers, born 1799 in SC. This is based only on the fact that he was working as a boy on a nearby farm so this assumption may be incorrect. This John was married to Annie Draper, but she died either before he left TN, on the way or in TX; she was gone by 1850 and John had remarried within the year to Rhoda Isabelle Wilson Hyatt, widow to Frederick Hyatt. All but one of his children were "farmed out". His oldest son took the siblings with him and moved to Arkansas. While James Rufus worked on a nearby farm.

James Rufus Rogers married Mary Melissa Davis. They divorced apparently as both remarried. We have no records to indicate what James Rufus did after 1880. However a family Bible indicates he remarried to Miss J R Mailler (have never found her).
