Double Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stewart Funeral Home at Wamego for Virgil Lister, 36, and his wife, Veleta, 29 both of 907 N. Van Buren, Topeka, who were killed Saturday when their car collided with a Union Pacific freight train within the city limits of Belvue in Pottawatomie County.
Virgil Eldon Lister was born Oct. 2, 1930 at Peru, Neb., and spent most of his life in Shawnee County. He had lived in Topeka a few months and earlier lived in the Silver Lake community. He had been a pipeline construction worker.
Mrs. Velleta Lister was born in Topeka. Virgil and Velleta Lister were married in 1957. (Mom, was not born in Topeka, Kansas. She was born at Lansing Prison, Lansing, Kansas)
Mr. and Mrs. Lister are survived by a son, Virgil Lister Jr., at home; and three daughters, Alma Lister, Jessie Lister and Jane Lister, all at home. The children were injured in the accident and currently are patients in hospitals in Topeka and Wamego.
Besides his children, Virgil Lister is survived by his mother, Mrs. Grace Lister Dodds, Houston, Miss.; his father, Jesse Lister, 231 Broadmoor; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Myers, Onaga, and Mrs. Jean Ellenbecker, 231 Broadmoor; and five brothers, Lewis Lister, Linn Creek, Mo., Bernard Lister and Jerry Lister, both of 907 N. Van Buren, Dale Lister, 1102 Fillmore and Francis Lister, Denver, Colo.
Besides her children, Mrs. Veletta Lister is survived by her father, Arthur Lister, Mayetta.
Burial for Mr. and Mrs. Lister will be in the Wesleyan Methodist Cemetery near Dover.
