John enlisted 8 July 1861 in Company C 13th Regiment Georgia Infantry. He rose in the ranks to serve as lieutenant and captain of his company. He was captures in July 1864 and spent time in prison in Maryland before his release.
John N. Ferguson moved with his wife, parents and grandmother from Georgia to Shiloh, Union Parish, Louisiana about 1871. He was elected constable for the Shiloh region in the 1880s and served until his murder in 1887.
