Mrs. Amanda Gray Dies Thursday Of Sudden Illness

Mrs. (Aunt) Amanda Gray, 98, of 1011 Kickapoo St., died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at her home after a sudden ilness. Funeral services for Mrs. Gray are pending at ThompsonoElliott Funeral Home. Mrs. Gray was born five miles from Jacksonville in a community named for her grandfather, Elijah Earle, who moved from Alabama to this area in 1846. She was one of nine children born to James C. and Matilda Benge Earle, outliving them all. She would have been 99 years of age next November 7. Mrs. Gray was a member of First Methodist Church. She married Thomas Chesterfield Gray at the age of 21. He preceded her in death in 1930. They were the parents of seven children. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Loleita Sanders, and Mrs. Ora Ford, both of Jacksonville, and Mrs. Thelma Bollinger of Austin.
