WAPPAPELLO, Mo. -- Barton E. Umphenour, 78, of Wappapello died Saturday, June 10, 2006, at his home.

He was born Dec. 4, 1927, in Danville, Ill., son of Carl and Martha Rehberg Umphenour. He and Helen Richardt were married Feb. 14, 1987, in Warrenton, Mo.

Umphenour retired as an industrial mechanic with Crown Cork and Seal in St. Louis. He was a lifetime member of Wappapello VFW Post 3416. He was formerly of Delta.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and with the Merchant Marines during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Terry Umphenour of St. Louis, Jim Umphenour of Eolia, Mo., David Umphenour of St. Peters, Mo.; a daughter, Lori Aly of St. Louis; two stepsons, Gene Seats of Wappapello, Carl Davis of Vichy, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Janet Tanner of Tonganoxie, Kan.; a brother, Charles Umphenour of Rock Hill, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 4 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel, with Jim Hoyt officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery, with full military rites by Missouri Military Funeral Honors.
