He succeeded his father as superintendent of the old Barnhardt Manufacturing company, and was a member of the Hopewell Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Laura Mason McDonald of the home; five daughters, Miss Estelle McDonald, Miss Edith McDonald, Miss Ethel McDonald, all of the home, Mrs. T. J. Dunn of Mecklenburg County, and Mrs. Arthur H. Moore of Mt. Dora, Fla.; four sons, J. Mason McDonald of Lumberton, Miss., W. S. McDonald, H. L. McDonald, and R. W. McDonald, all of Mecklenburg County and three sisters, Mrs. C. D. Bennett of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Earle Drennen of Birmingham, Ala, and Mrs. W. T. Ingraham of Rock Away, N. J.
Funeral plans are incomplete. The body is at the Hamkins - Whittington Funeral Home.
