Hamster Extraordinaire. A black bear hamster, Smokey joined the Morlidge family in July of 2006. Generally laid back, Smokey quickly proved to have a personality all his own with the ability to make you smile no matter what type of mood you were in. In June 2007, he joined his family on a cross-country road trip and traveled from San Francisco, California all the way across the northern border to Montreal, Quebec and back again. Along the way, Smokey would visit the Great Salt Lake of Utah, the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, and historic fields of Gettysburg. He would even get to personally visit the final resting places of two American presidents, Dwight Eisenhower in Abilene, Kansas and John F. Kennedy in Arlington, Virginia. In fact, he could probably be the only hamster who could claim to have been to Arlington National Cemetery. Though not as active in his later years, he still knew how to sit back and enjoy life. Smokey passed away just short of his third birthday on the night before the Chinese New Year and will never be forgotten by those who knew and loved him. He was laid to rest in the San Francisco Bay Area in a peaceful spot overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
