Keri Elizabeth Shryock, 23, of Sylvania, Ohio, died December 18, 2008, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center of complications from an accident that occurred during a Christmas play she was performing at her church.

Keri was born on November 26, 1985 in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Paul and Lana Shryock. Keri was a 2003 graduate of Sylvania Northview High School and in 2007 received her Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Bowling Green State University. This past August, she enrolled at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio and was pursuing a Masters Degree in Community counseling.

Keri worked at YMCA's Camp Storer for six years as a summer counselor and as the Director of the Waterfront. She taught water safety, trained lifeguards, and was a regular blood donor. She was a director over the lifeguards at the Bowling Green pool. Most recently she held a Graduate Assistant position in Xavier's commuter services office and worked as a server at the Cincinnati Country Club. The two roles that Keri credited with re-shaping her life were serving as a Resident Advisor for the Freshmen girls at BGSU and her Chrysalis weekend experiences.

She offered her time to serve in various roles for Northwest Ohio's Chrysalis community, a Christian faith based program centered on the spiritual growth of teenagers 15-18 as they transition from adolescence to adulthood. Keri also became an active participant in Pursuit, a community group and ministry at Crossroads Church in Cincinnati, where she joined in August.

Keri liked to swim, run, play the flute and piano, and sing. She participated in club gymnastics and intramural inter-tube water polo teams at BGSU in addition to creating pottery and quilts.

Keri's life work was service to others and to God. Keri spent her life reaching out to and caring for others. She lived her life with joy, passion, commitment and was not afraid to try new experiences. Her smile and her laugh could light up any room. Her caring compassion, thoughtful words, and love for the Lord impacted numerous lives. She lived her faith and shared her faith. She made a difference. She had inner strength and a can do attitude, even in times of difficulty. Keri loved animals. She loved her family and the many friends she made along her path of life.

Keri was a loving woman, always accepting of others, willing to listen, and to offer a smile or laugh at the perfect moment as well as words of encouragement and support. Keri was truly a role model for how to live life in the world for all that knew her, touched everyone she encountered, and will be missed terribly.

Keri Shryock is survived by her parents Paul and Lana, her brothers Christopher and William, her sister in law Rhonda, and her nephew Ethan. Grandparents Lyle and Lucy Monger of Mountain Home, Arkansas and W.W. (Bub) Shryock of Malvem, AR.
