James Batista Garetto

RELIANCE James Batista Garetto, 86, of 1200 Main St., Reliance, died at his home Monday, Oct. 2, 2005. A resident of Reliance for the past 52 years and former resident of Rock Springs, Garetto died following a sudden illness.

He was born Sept. 13, 1919, in Clinton, Ind., the son of Lawrance and Mary Elizabeth Delaurante Garetto.

He attended schools in Rock Springs.

He married Effie Juanita Hanley in Manila, Utah, Dec. 15, 1940. She preceded him in death Feb. 3, 1991.

Garetto was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was employed at the Western Wyoming College as a tool room attendant and retired in 1981. He was a member of the Rock Springs Evangelical Free Church.

His interests included spending time with his family and friends, fishing, hunting, woodworking, collecting trains, music, cooking, and was an avid Wyoming Cowboy fan.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Garetto and wife Patty of Urie, and Dave Garetto and wife Dodey of Rock Springs; one daughter, Cheryl Slater and husband Vernon of Rock Springs; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Deanna Logan; one brother, Alfred Garetto; one sister, Lily DeBernardi; and one grandson, David Logan.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. The Rev. Richard Carlson of the Rock Springs Evangelical Free Church will conduct services. Military graveside services and interment will be conducted by the American Legion Archie Hay Post No. 24. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral chapel Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005 from 4-8 p.m. and again Friday until time of services.
