Donald Raymond Winslow was born November 25, 1917 to Don Ray Winslow and Amanda Victoria Nelson Winslow in the small town of Zumbrota, Minnesota. Donald was the youngest of six children born to Don and Amanda. He grew up in Zumbrota and married Genevieve Worwa of Minneapolis, whom he met while in the service during World War II.

Don was very athletic and played on many sports teams in high school as well as a community baseball team years later. He also enjoyed cheering on the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings, attending a Twins World Series game in Minneapolis with Genevieve (Jenny) in the 1990's.

Don entered the Army on September 28, 1943 in the branch of the Military Police. He trained at Camp Plauche, Louisiana, Camp Livingston, Louisiana and Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He served in the Army during WWII for 31 months and was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon, Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. As an M.P. (Military Policeman)
Don guarded the German and Italian prisoners in this country during WWII. He always said the Italian prisoners had such wonderful singing voices and would sing as they went about their daily duties at the compound. Don had a great singing voice too... a deep bass. (He used to sing in the choir at church!) Don also took AWOL's back to their stations by rail for the Army.

He was discharged from the Army at Fort Sheridan, Illinois, April 25, 1946.

After Don's discharge from the army, He and Genevieve moved to Zumbrota to settle down and raise a family, which eventually included three children, and many pet cats and dogs over the years. Don took a job with the Minnesota Highway Department in Rochester, at which he became a Supervisor and remained with them for his entire working career.

Don loved to take the family on vacation trips, especially to the beautiful mountains out west in Wyoming, Colorado and Montana, where they would camp, swim, hike and take many pictures.

Don was greatly loved by his children and his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his five siblings and his son, Don.
He is survived by his wife Jenny, two daughters, one daughter-in-law, two sons-in-law, and eight grandchildren.

Don was a man of faith. His funeral was held at the Congregational U.C.C Church in Zumbrota with Rev. Kitty Burbo officiating. He was inurned at the Zumbrota Cemetery.

"Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again."
