Ernestine Burns, of Hartford, passed away at home October 11, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. The family wishes to thank Smoky Mountain Hospice for their genuine care and services.
She was a member of Pigeon Valley Baptist Church. She was retired from Cocke County Board of Education where she was employed for 27 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fannie and Harrison Barnes; sister, Wanda Dorsey; and brothers, W.C. and Cecil Barnes.
Survivors include her husband, Harry Burns, Hartford; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Barry Justice, and grandchildren, Ryan and Evan Justice, all of Powell; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Sam Oawasmy, and grandchildren, David, Jacob, and Yusef, all of Eaglesville, Pa.; son, Michael, and grandchildren, Heather and Mikey; son, Harry Jr., and family; sisters, Bonnie Ramsey, Hartford, and Barbara Dailey, Newport; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Dot Barnes, Hartford, and Charles and Debbie Barnes, Maryville; brother-in-law, Ralph Dorsey, Aiken, S.C.; sisters-in-law, Alice Phillips, Waterville, N.C., who so lovingly cared for Ernestine; Velma Barnes, Maryville; and Anna May Morgan, Williamstown, N.J.; brother-in-law, Lee Heavline and family, Chapel Hill, N.C.; brother-in-law, Ivan Gamen, Medford Lakes, N.J.; numerous nieces and nephews, special loving grandson, Sakel, and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fellowship Center, Knoxville's Hospitality House for cancer patients, c/o Fort Sanders Foundation, 1901 Clinch Avenue, Knoxville TN 37916.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 6:00-8:00 p.m. with services to follow at 8:00 p.m. at Manes Funeral Home with the Rev. Ransom Hall officiating.
