Minnie Walton Smith McKnight Bass, 92, was born on March 16, 1916, at home in Fruitland Park. Died January 26, 2009. She was a life long resident of Fruitland Park. She was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Fruitland Park where she sang in the choir for over 50 years. She was a member of the Woman's Club of Leesburg for over 50 years and the Lake County Historical Society. She was president of the Fruitland Park Elementary School PTA, Fruitland Park council woman and a journalist with The Daily Commercial, Leesburg. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Captain James T. McKnight Sr. and Henry Bass. She is survived by sons, James (Elena) McKnight Jr., Thomas (CheeChee) Bass, Daniel Bass Sr., James Bunky (Mindy) Bass; daughters, Betty Lou (Gordon) Forbes, Theresa (George) Jakubcin; 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Friends may call on Friday, January 30, 2009 from 5-6 p.m. at Page-Thues Funeral Home, Leesburg. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2009, 2 p.m. at Community United Methodist Church, Fruitland Park, with Pastor Michael Fordham officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Fruitland Park. Family requests that memorial contributions be made to: Community United Methodist Church, Music Ministry, Fruitland Park.
