E. Maxine Caven, 91, of Dublin, and formerly of Piqua and Fletcher, passed away at 9:50 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, in Columbus Alzheimer's Care Center.

She was born March 7, 1917, in Greenville, the daughter of the late Earl and Mary (Fahnestock) Niles. She married James Robert Brokaw in 1945, and he preceded her in death in 1959. She married Howard F. Caven in 1976, and he preceded her in death in 1997. A daughter, Mary Burch, also preceded her in death.

Maxine is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Mike Speed of Hilliard; three grandchildren, Courtney Burch of Cincinnati, Jonathan Speed of Hilliard and Catherine Speed of Cincinnati; two stepsons and their families, Jim and Linda Caven of Lima and Tom and Cherie Caven of Florida; and a son-in-law, Dan Burch.

Maxine was a 1935 graduate of Greenville High School. She worked as a clerk for Darke County. She attended the Congregational Christian Church where she also worked as a secretary and was a member of the Fletcher United Methodist Church. Maxine enjoyed an active life, traveling and playing bridge with her card club friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service in the funeral home Thursday, beginning at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Chapter Headquarters, Central Ohio, 3380 Tremont Road, Columbus, OH 43221. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.
