Bessie Edith Specht was the second of four children born to Rosa May Shelton and Charles Benjamin Specht Sr. Born and raised in Marshall County, she graduated from the LeGrand High School in 1929 and shortly afterwards, married Lewis Alvin Beane in Unionville, Missouri. Having met where they both worked at the Hotel Tallcorn pharmacy, they decided to open and run Beane's Cafe in LeGrand. Unfortunately their marriage did not last and they divorced.

Bessie then married Charles E Monroe 13 Nov 1942 in Dakota City, Nebraska. He was a pre-Pearl Harbor navy veteran and Bessie waited for his safe return from the Pacific theatre. They lived for almost forty years in Rockford, Illinois where Charles pursued a career in real estate and Bessie was involved with the youth within her community. She participated in Brownies, Girl Scouts, the 4-H club, the PTA and Sunday school. She was a faithful member of the Court Street Methodist Church.

At the time of her death her survivors included her husband Charlie, her daughter Pamela and her husband Don Voss, a sister Leona Adair, and a brother Charles Specht Jr. She also left behind two grandchildren, Meenu Joy and David Rajan along with several nieces and nephews. She joined her parents, her sister Dorothy Manship, and a nephew James Adair in final rest. Services took place at Fred C. Olson's Mortuary.
