Bessie then married Charles E Monroe 13 Nov 1942 in Dakota City, Nebraska. He was a pre-Pearl Harbor navy veteran and Bessie waited for his safe return from the Pacific theatre. They lived for almost forty years in Rockford, Illinois where Charles pursued a career in real estate and Bessie was involved with the youth within her community. She participated in Brownies, Girl Scouts, the 4-H club, the PTA and Sunday school. She was a faithful member of the Court Street Methodist Church.
At the time of her death her survivors included her husband Charlie, her daughter Pamela and her husband Don Voss, a sister Leona Adair, and a brother Charles Specht Jr. She also left behind two grandchildren, Meenu Joy and David Rajan along with several nieces and nephews. She joined her parents, her sister Dorothy Manship, and a nephew James Adair in final rest. Services took place at Fred C. Olson's Mortuary.
