Ship broker and shipowner in Rotterdam. In 1916 he founded with K. Fekkes, Jr. the "Fa. Soetermeer, Fekkes & Co.", since 1923 named: "Soetermeer, Fekkes' Cargadoorskantoor" (nowadays in Zwijndrecht). Until 1922 the firm owned a subsidiary shipping company, called "Nationale Stoomvaart Maatschappij". In 1921 it owned four steamships. One of them was the "Heenvliet" (see picture). In 1922 it was sold to Sloman (Hamburg). It was demolished in Italy in 1968.
