Adelene Ann (Whren) Price, 82, 420 Fifth St., Tyrone, died unexpectedly Sunday at home. She was born in Portage, daughter of the late Joseph F. and Frances Genevieve (Zura) Whren. On June 30, 1951, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone, she married W. Paul Price. He died Aug. 28, 1984. Surviving are a daughter, Sue Griep and husband, Gary, of Hollidaysburg; five grandchildren: Jonathan and Jennifer Papp of Hollidaysburg, Matthew Price and wife, Audrey, and Ashley Price, all in Florida, and Daniel Price of Johnstown; and a sister, Dorothy Fernau in Florida. She was preceded in death by two sons: John Price and Thomas W. Price; and a brother, Robert B. Whren. Mrs. Price was employed as a medical and insurance secretary for Dr. Daniel Friday, Tyrone, for 10 years. In the past she was employed at her family business, Whren Associates, Tyrone, where she was licensed for four types of insurance. She also was employed at Snelling and Snelling Employment Agency and in the Registrar's Office at Penn State University. Her husband Paul was the former editor of the Tyrone Daily Herald. She was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, and was a 1944 graduate of Tyrone High School, and graduate of Zeth Business School (Altoona School of Commerce), and the Hartford, Conn., School of Business, majoring in insurance and real estate. She was the only female student of the class. She was past president and board member of the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library for 12 years and a member of the Questers and the Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Rita. She was a past member of the Tyrone Service League and Tyrone Woman's Club. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone, with Father Joseph T. Orr as celebrant. Committal will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone, where a wake service will be held and the rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
