Vassie `V.L.' Milligan Sr.

Vassie L. ``V.L.'' Milligan Sr., 88, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at home after an illness.

He was born March 13, 1912, in Horry County, a son of the late Jack and Callie Milligan .

He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He fullfilled many positions within the church and was most recently the chairman of the deacons. He served for more than 60 years as a deacon. He was also a song leader and served on the cemetery committee.

Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Lewis Milligan of Conway; two sons, Roger Milligan of Chaska, Minn., and Vassie Milligan Jr. of Conway; eight daughters, Jerley Collins, Naomi Cathey and Berlene Chestnut, all of Conway, Sue Black of Spartanburg, Avis Stewart of Kernersville, N.C., Jackie Johnson of Sellers, Frances Smith of Fountain Inn, and Vernell Ercoline of Illinois; a brother, Daniel Frank Milligan of Conway; a sister, Lottie Cribb of Georgetown; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

He was predeceased by two sons, Jack Daniel Milligan and Gene Crosby Milligan ; and two brothers, Marvin Milligan and Von Milligan .

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Baptist Church. The Revs. Mike Kinlaw and Jerry Phillips will officiate. Burial will be in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
