On October 5, 1907, the Papendorfs arrived in Galveston aboard the SS Koln. Ida was pregnant with their ninth child at the time. The family settled in Otto, Texas. Ida died of a heart attack two months after arrival.
On December 16, 1912, Karl married Olga Wolske Kuehne. They had two more sons, Paul and Walter. In the 1920's, Karl, Olga, and their younger children moved to the Chicago area.
Karl died on September 20, 1942. He is buried at Oakridge-Glen Oak Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois.
