Raymond Walker McBride was born April 15, 1918, in Holdenville, Okla., to William D. McBryde and Lilly B. (Dilbeck ) McBryde. He died Jan. 15, 2009, at his home with his family at his side.
Raymond married Julia Noggle in 1943. They recently celebrated their incredible love story of 65 years. Ray worked hard all of his life. He had three basic careers: cooking, picking evergreens (huckleberry brush) and then purchasing a business from Johnson Rock; and he owned and operated Greenacres Hand Dug Wells until he retired at the age of 62. While he might have retired from a paying job, he was too busy to slow down. He made chowder and soup and delivered them to the girls at the bank or hardware store. He fished and crabbed so that he could give fresh seafood to so many people around town. Ray was incredibly generous and unselfishly gave anything he could to help another person. He was and always will be an inspiration to his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all.
Ray is survived by his wife of 65 years, Julia McBride of Greenacres; children, LillieMae Hood of Philomath, Jeraldine Austin of Lakeview, Bunny Perkins of North Bend, Russell McBride and his wife, Jan of Rogue River and Venita McBride of Roseburg; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters and one brother, all of whom live in Oregon.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to South Coast Hospice, 1620 Thompson Road, Coos Bay, OR 97420.
Arrangements are under the direction of Coos Bay Chapel, 267-3131.
