Patton Youth Killed In Wreck

A Patton youth was killed Saturday night when the car in which he was a passenger crashed on Route 36 in Elder Township just north of St. Boniface. Dead on arrival at Miner's Hospital, Spangler, was Christopher Thomas McConnell, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Duane McConnell. The youth died of multiple fractures of the skull, according to Coroner Joseph J. Govekar, who investigated along with state police. Young McConnell reportedly was thrown from the car on impact. Police identified the driver as John Charles Caprone, 16, also of Patton. He was admitted to Miner's Hospital with multiple bruises and brush burns of the body. His condition was listed as satisfactory. Police said the accident happened at approximately 3:45 o'clock as Caprone lost control of his car while rounding a curve. The vehicle crossed the roadway, smashed into guardrails and overturned.

Born in Spangler. The victim would have been a senior this year at Cambria Heights High School, Patton. He was born May 2, 1950, in Spangler. He is survived by his parents; 2 brothers, Clifford and Clinton, both at home, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Walter J. McConnell, Patton. Requiem Mass was held at 9 am Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Patton. Interment, church cemetery.
