Mary Usuella Due was born Tuesday, September 18, 1849, in Shelby County, Tennessee. Mary was two years old when her father died, after contracting pneumonia during the journey west to Arkansas. She had five brothers, the three oldest having served in the Union Army during the Civil War. The family had fled to Rolla, in central Missouri, during the war, but for the most part Mary grew up in the area of northern Arkansas.

Mary filed a "Declaration for Widow's Pension" in November 1928 for her husband's service in the Union Army during the Civil War. She turned 79 just two days after William's death. She was living at 810 N. Pottenger, Shawnee, Pottawotomie County, Oklahoma.

Mary died Sunday, the 3rd of July 1938, at the age 88 years, 10 months and 16 days.
