Charles City--Mrs. Anna Merten, 91, died Wednesday
morning after being taken to the Cedar Valley Hospital.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Grossmann-
Hage Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Born Nov. 6, 1870, in Arnswolde, Germany, she was the
daughter of Herman and Henrietta Fischer. She came to
Charles City in 1888 where she had lived since. She was
married to Herman Merten, Nov. 25, 1891.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Herman [Ella] Barthel,
Minneapolis; Mrs. Agnes Corbin Gaffney, Charles City; a son,
Gus, Charles City; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren
and nine great-great-grandchildren.
