Emerson Brown was born in Conn. or Mass. He was married to Rebecca Swift who was previously married to Ebenezer/Lemuel Martin.

Emerson & Rebecca lived in (North?) Adams, Berkshire County, Massachusetts and later permanently settled in Smithfield/Peterboro, New York.

In 1841 Emerson Brown along with Jacob Spencer were Oveseers of the Poor for the Town of Smithfield. Gerrit Smith (son of the founder of Smithfield & famous abolitionist & temperance proponent) wrote Emerson Brown & Jacob Spencer a letter requesting alcohol not be sold in their town).

As Emerson's son, Judson, passed away only months after Emerson did, Judson's wife, Poly, is also mentioned in the probated will as well as Judson & Poly's only child, Ellis [William Ellis Brown].
