Thomas Moses Traylor applied for his Soldier's Pension Claim on July 22, 1909, stating that he was 83 years old, born October 17, 1825, in Marion Co, GA. At the time of application, he was living in Calhoun Co, FL, and had been living in Florida since 1849.
He enlisted at Marianna, FL, under the name Thomas M. Traylor in the fall of 1863, in Jeter's Co, 5th/Scotts Battalion, in the CSA. He was honorably discharged at Quincy, FL, in May 1865.
Prior to the FL enlistment, he had served in Co A, 8th MS Regiment. He was on furlough/sick leave and was cut off from returning to his Mississippi Regiment due to lack of transportation facilities which were blocked due to Sherman's March through Georgia.
He enlisted in Milton's Company 5th Florida Battalion of Calvary and was then transferred to Jeter's Company.
His name during the military was stated as Thomas Moses Traylor, sometimes signed Thomas M. Traylor, Moses Traylor, and Moses T. Traylor.
On Oct 27, 1909, the Comptroller responded that his claim was on hold, because there was no proof of an honorable discharge from Co A, 8th MS Regiment, which he served first.
The records from the War Department reported him as absent without leave. They also wanted to know if he served in the 5th FL Battalion of Calvary under the name of Moses Traylor. They had a record of Moses Traylor but couldn't find a record of Thomas M. Traylor.
It is unknown whether or not he ever received his pension.
J. A. TRAYLOR of Sneads, Jackson Co, FL, put in an application for headstone for Thomas M. Traylor, Grant Cemetery, Marianna, FL, with the War Dept on Feb 8, 1933. It was shipped on Mar 31, 1933. The date of death was May 11, 1911.
