Mrs. Sarah Belle Athey, a lifelong resident of this county except for a few years spent in Pierceton, died on Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Kenner on Road 30, where she had resided since the death of her husband, Aleck Athey, in 1937. Death came following an illness of five weeks.
She was born Aug. 8, 1864, to Robert J. and Catherine Jones Elliott, in Troy township and was 77 years of age at the time of her demise. Three brothers and two sisters had preceded her in death. They were Samuel, William and Edwin Elliott, Mrs. James Bills and Mrs. Lewis [sic] Joslin.
Mrs. Athey is survived by the following nephews and nieces: Othniel Elliott, Chippewa Falls, Wis.; Bonnell Elliott, Beloit, Wis.; Otho and Horton Bills of Whitley county; Mrs. John Kenner, at whose home she had been living for the past four years; Mrs. Clyde Western and Mrs. Harry Keisler of Columbia City.
The body has been removed to the Ashley Funeral Home in Pierceton and will be returned to the Kenner home Wednesday evening where friends may call after 6 o'clock.
Funeral services will be held at the Troy Presbyterian church, of which Mrs. Athey had been a member for 55 years, Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Dr. E. C. Lindsay of Goshen, assisted by the Rev. L. I. Sommer of the Troy Methodist church, will have charge of the rites. Burial will be made in the Troy cemetery.
