George "Dutch" Bagley
November 22, 1910 - October 22, 2008 George "Dutch" Bagley, 97, of Silt, was called home by his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, Wednesday, October 22, 2008. Dutch was born November 22, 1910 in Leadhill, Arkansas to George Chapman and Sarah Leona (Tatum) Bagley. His family moved to Silt, Colorado when he was a young boy. In 1932, Dutch was united in marriage to Esther McPherson, they had two children, George E. and Charles A. Bagley. During WWII he was working in Pearl Harbor building underground fuel tanks. Following this he worked construction in the Aleutian Islands, Canada and Texas. Upon his return to Silt, he was employed by Union Carbide until his retirement. Dutch married Dorothy Peck on April 10, 1970. They continued ranching on Silt Mesa for many years afterwards. This wonderful, generous man taught all of us how to live. His life demonstrated his Christian faith by serving the Lord in the First Baptist Church of Garfield County for 60 years. His hard work, integrity, reliability, ethical standards, love for his fellow man, quick wit and sense of humor were appreciated by all who knew him and made our time with him so much fun. Dutch is survived by his wife Dorothy; sons, George (Virginia) Bagley of Silt, and Charles (Luella) Bagley of Nampa, ID; step-daughters, Carol (Russ) Brown of Hemet, CA, and Diana (Vern) Harris of Sylva, NC; ten grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren plus a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; three brothers, and three sisters. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 27 at the 1st Baptist Church of Garfield County in Silt. Interment will follow immediately at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rifle. Rifle Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the building fund at 1st Baptist Church of Garfield County.
