He was educated in Scioto County in Ohio, an army veteran, Leon was employed as a salesman and as a worker in a paper factory.� Leon later served as a pastor in churches in Ohio, West Virginia and Florida and held many leadership positions in the various Advent Christian Conferences.� The McElhaney family moved to Lake City in 1968, where Leon established McElhaney's Sew-Vac company, which he operated until his retirement in 1988.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie Riley McElhaney. He is survived by their children, Richard Lee (Barbarah) McElhaney of Alum Creek, West Virginia, Ronald Franklin (Kitty) McElhaney of Lake City, Fl., Piper Laurie (Frank) Wehrle of Pensacola Fl. and Linda Susan (Mickey) Hazellief of Brooksville, Fl.:� One brother, David Coleman (Charlotte) McElhaney of Coshocton, Ohio: One sister, Artie Francis (Charlie) Boldman of McDermott, Ohio: Eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.� Funeral services for Rev. McElhaney will be conducted �Monday, June 29, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home, with Dr. Larry Withrow of the Southern Advent Christian Association, officiating.� Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City, Fl.� Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M., Sunday, June 28, at Guerry Funeral Home, 2659 SW Main Blvd., Lake City, Fl.
