William Horrall,Jr was born in 1757 in the Virgina Colony. About 1770 the family moved to Amhurst County, Virginia. In 1784, William, along with his brother Thomas and his father William Sr. moved to Union County, South Carolina. They lived there until 1809 when he, his father, and Thomas, along with the family of their Methodist minister John Wallace, moved to then Knox County, Indiana in the Northwest Territory. Their Indiana home site is in present-day Daviess County, where they farmed and helped to establish Bethel United Methodist Church in 1815.

William Horrall was a veteran of the Revolutionary War.

(This old cemetery is on a farm located between Petersburg and Washington, Indiana. It is sometimes known as the Shanks/Old Bethel Cemetery)
