Author
Helen Fuller Orton was the beloved author of over thirty-five children's books. Her first book was published in 1921 and she continued writing through the 1950's. Her earliest stories were about nature and intended for young children. Her later books were mysteries in historical settings and were intended for older children who had progressed to reading chapter books. Having been an elementary teacher prior to her marriage, she intentionally incorporated history into her books, especially what it was like for ordinary people to live through important historical events. Several of her books are set in New York state.
