Barent Fraser (Frazer) served with destinction throughout the Civil War; as a Sergeant in the Twenty-first New Jersey Regiment and laterly Captain in the 33d New Jersey Regiment. He participated in Shermans famous march to the sea. After the war he obtained a position in the Importers and Traders Bank, of New York, which he held up to his death. Capt. "Bob" Frazer was a commander of the "Boys in Blue". The events leading to his death were as follows. Commanding the Hoboken delegation at the Republican parade in Jersey City on Monday October 16th 1876; acting on the staff of General Toffey and an aid to Major David Peloubet, when last seen. While riding his horse home to 168 Bloomfield Street in Hoboken, N.J., he was thrown off, suffering a skull fracture. Thought to be a victim of foul play an investigation was performed. The finding were; his death was the result of riding a horse to wild to handle. He was known as a quiet and gentlemanly man, and had a large circle of friends amoung the Democracy.
