Amanda Josefina Bergström was born on November 1, 1855, in Fellingsbro, Örebro, Sweden, the child of Karl Gustav and Anna Katharina Cajsa. She married Henrik Christian "Henry" Nyström on November 6, 1881, in Sweden. They had six children in 14 years. In 1900, they were Hilda (17), Alva (16), Jenny (12), Annie (8), Harry (6) and Albert (3). She died on August 1, 1931, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, at the age of 75, of heart problems.
