Miss Katherine Riddell, 88, a long time resident of Jackson, died on Friday, February 6, 2009, at the Nichols Center in Madison.
A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2009, at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Jackson. Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson is assisting with arrangements.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James C. Riddell of Jackson.
Survivors include her sister, Mrs. E.R. White of Madison; and numerous other relatives.
Miss Riddell was a native Mississippian, having been born in Sunflower County but lived most of her life in Jackson.
She attended Power elementary school in Jackson, was a graduate of Central High, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Millsaps College where she was a member of Phi Mu. She had been employed at the Mississippi State Department of Health until her retirement.
She was a charter member of Riverside Independent Methodist Church, a member of Mississippi Public Health Retirees Association, Mississippi Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the War of 1812, The Order of the First Families of Mississippi, and the Magna Charta.
Miss Riddell was founder and charter member of the Epilepsy Foundation of Mississippi and was on the Board of the latter for many years. In 1972 in Washington, D.C., she was the recipient of the national annual outstanding "Service Award" granted by the Epilepsy Foundation of America.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Riverside Independent Methodist Church or the Epilepsy Foundation of Mississippi.
