Lorraine Allen Hughes, 76, died Feb. 2, 2009. Born March 1, 1932, in Lebanon, New Hampshire, she resided in Yucaipa for 10 years.

Following her retirement as a business owner in the South Bay area for many years, Hughes zealously embraced her two favorite activities: genealogy and membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution. A life member of NSDAR in the El Redondo and Arrowhead Valley Chapters, Lorraine served as regent for the organization.

She is survived by her son, James Hughes; daughter Ruthanne Hughes of Iowa, sister Janice Montague, Wofford Heights; brother Douglas Allen of Yucaipa, six grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, and their son Rick.

The family extends special thanks to the staff of Redlands Community Hospital.

Lorraine served as the Regent of the Arrowhead Valley Chapter of the DAR for five years (2004-2009) and was the proud descendant of 18 Revolutionary War Patriots.

Lorraine, herself, created this memorial for her son, Rick.

These are the words, etched in stone, that she left to honor her son, Rick.

With the two adjoining stones, we can only assume that her wish was to someday be placed beside him.
