DAMON, Mary Janet "Jinx" Winter, 86, of Kearney, died Monday, February 2, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Their will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Pima Friends Meeting in Tucson, AZ. A message of condolence, tribute or memory can be left at www.hlhmortuary.com. Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Janet was born on July 29, 1922 in Maple Wood, New Jersey, to Angus McCullough and Mabel (Kriebel) Winter. She graduated from Maplewood High School with the class of 1930. Mary Janet later earned a Bachelors Degree from Penn State College. She married Paul Edward Damon in Maplewood in 1948. Mary Janet worked for a number of years as a newspaper reporter and editor and also as a homemaker later in life. She regularly attended the Pima Friends Meeting. She was a member of ACLU and Witness for Peace.

Surviving Relatives: son and daughter-in-law, John and Mariana Damon, of Kearney, NE; sisters and brothers-in-law, Irma and Hank McCall, of West Palm Beach, FL, Nancy and Bob Trankle of Franklin, Indiana; grandsons, Ned Damon, of Philadelphia, PA, Will Damon, of Seattle, WA, Anatole Mirasano, of Kearney, NE; great-niece, Ann Burkholder, of Cozad, NE.

Mary Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, in 2004; son, Timothy Winter Damon; daughter-in-law, Diane Louise Sweepe Damon.
