Count de Hochepied became in 1759 Consul-General of the Netherlands. At the same time he was Consul of Sweden and Vice-Consul of Austria, Russia, Denmark, Naples and Sicily, and Tuscany. His grandfather, also Consul of the Netherlands, had in 1704 been ennobled with the Hungarian title of 'magnate' (Baron). In 1741 his father had been raised to Count.
Daniel Jean married in 1763 Marie Dunant (Contantinople 1726-Smyrna 1801), daughter of Jacques Dunant and Anna Arlaud, and widow of Samuel Crawley, the British Consul.
