Urban S. Lambert, Long Active Figure In Alexandria Affairs

Urban S. Lambert. 83. who had been active in Alexandria business and civic affairs for many years, died Sunday at George Washington Hospital after an operation. He lived at 510 North View terrace, Alexandria.

Mr. Lambert was in the merchandise brokerage business in Alexandria and at Seventh and Pennsylvania avenue N.W. under his own name for many years. Later, he was president and manager of the Alexandria Water Co. until it was sold to the American Water Works & Electric Co. in 1929. He stayed on as manager, retiring about 1932.

Mr. Lambert had served on the City Council, the School Board and the board of Alexandria Hospital. He had been a director of the Citizens National Bank of Alexandria since 1908. He was a past president of the Alexandria Kiwanis Club and a member of Alexandria-Washington Masonic Lodge and St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Born in Alexandria, he was the son of Leonora Balsley and Benjamin Higdon Lambert, Jr. His father was former collector of the port at Alexandria and secretary of the Potomac River Pilot's Association. Mr. Lambert is survived by his widow. Rose Ella; a son and daughter, Miss Esther Lambert and Urban Lambert, Jr., both of the Alexandria address. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. South Pitt and Duke streets. Alexandria. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.
