Countess Catherine de Hochepied had first been married with Gerhard Johann Balthasar von Heidenstam (1747-1803), Swedish Envoy at Constantinople. As she was an aspiring actress, her first husband organized an amateur theatre for her in Pera. In 1786, the theatre opened with an operatic version of "L'école des Jaloux" by Antoine Jacob Montfleury, in front of three hunderd spectators. It was the first opera ever performed in Turkey, and, probably, in the Muslim world. The music was played by the embassy staff and directed by her husband [Source: www.skagerlind.net/sia/vonheidenstam].
