her obit:
Mrs. Chewning Died Last Night
Many friends will be shocked to learn of the death of Mrs. Nancy Ann Chewning which occurred at her home, 918 South Third Street, at 9:30 last night, following an illness of considerable duration.
She was the daughter of Charles and Harriet F. (Moseley) Morris, and was born at Keithsburg, Jan. 30, 1874. On Dec. 28, 1897, she was married to Theodore Chewning at Kahoka, Mo.,and he preceded her in death several years ago. During the years she had lived in Monmouth she had become known to many friends and neighbors.
She is survived by these children: Austin R. and Herville P. Chewning of Monmouth and Mrs. Florence Downes of Roseville. Her first born child did not survive. There are seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She leaves three brothers: Arthur and Thomas Morris of Williamstown, Mo., and William Morris of Warsaw, Ill. There are a number of other relatives.
Mrs. Chewning was a devout member of the First Baptist Church of Monmouth, having united with that denomination in girlhood. So long as her health permitted she was a faithful attendant at the services and always interested in the work of the congregation. Her fine Christian character was known to all.
Many years ago she became identified with the Rebekah lodge of Ashton, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at the Lugg Memorial Chapel at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon with the Rev. John Kern of the First Baptist church officiating and interment will be made in Monmouth cemetery.
Friends may call at the chapel.
