David Oliver Newton was born August 4, 1837, in Grayson County, VA. He was a soldier in the Civil War, in the Confederate Army; enlisted in the Cherokee Artillery of Rome, GA. Was in the siege at Vicksburg, the battles of Chattanooga and numerous other engagements against the Union Army.
Mr. Newton married January 13, 1807, Martha Jane Stephens, born June 18, 1846. They settled first a few miles from Rome, Floyd County, GA, where their children were born. They then moved to Milano, TX, then in 1889 to Iredell, TX and in 1906 to Hico, TX.
