Mrs. Gaillard was the former Lucy Foster, daughter of William Ball Foster and Lucy Huguenin Foster. She was born in Charleston on September 16, 1920. She attended local schools and worked as a stenographer on Broad Street for several years, prior to her marriage.
When she was younger, she was an active member of the Junior League of Charleston and other civic activities. She was also very active for sixteen years as Charleston's First Lady and was known and admired for her home entertaining. She always accompanied her husband on his official City responsibilities believing that it was her duty as First Lady of the City.
She is survived by her husband, three sons, and five grandchildren, all of Charleston.
Funeral services will be held at St. Philip's Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 8, 2001 and the burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Friends may call at J.HENRY STUHR, INC. DOWNTOWN CHAPEL between 5:00 and 7: p.m. on Sunday , October 7, 2001.
The family requests that memorials be sent to St. Philip's Episcopal Church Building Fund, Bishop Gadsden Community or the charity of one's choice.
